[6] England- Risen from the Ashes??

All cricket lovers must have seen the incredible comeback of the pommies in the last three games from their dismal summer. The English team are now being hailed by all quarters as one of the frontrunners for the world cup. In response to this, this was a comment that was posted somewhere- "The England cricket team, are in the position of a person who charges back into a burning house to rescue the baby and comes out with the cat. It's a nice cat, and you are fond of it, but it's not exactly what you went in for. Still, there's not much you can do except stroke it."
England were dominated for the whole summer by a professional Aussie side, and in the final days of the tour they would have surprised themselves too by the victories. This cannot be considered anymore than an casual adherence to the law of averages. The transformation from a team which was a sitting duck for the whole season into a champion side does not take place in a matter of days.
The cliched phrase that 'the public memory is very short' seems so true. Just a single victory and the team is exalted as the world beaters. Only the Australian team has proved 'consistantly' in both forms of the game and against all teams over the past two decades that it deserves this title and a series here and there cannot possibly take the champion tag away from them. No team in the near future even hints to match their brilliance. The ruthless and clinical way they go about demolishing the opposition is a treat to watch. They way the bench force fits the shoes of the likes of S Waugh, Warne and McGrath says a lot about their administration too who are able to churn up quality players from a country that has a fraction of the population of India and almost four times the size. Though I support India, Aussies are my favourite team and love to see them play.
